Porto

Here is my greek friend, Olga and I.  We went to Porto, which is a city up north.

As you can see, we chose the wrong day, because we are soaking wet.

It rained the whole time but we made the best out of our trip and had a lot of fun.

We took the teleferico, or the ski lift to the top.  As you can see we

had a great view...haha. Everything was foggy, but it was nice to be in

the ski lift and out of the rain for a few minutes!

 Here is a fortress that leads down to the river.

 Here is an old Catholic church in the center of the town.

 Here is a traditional sandwich from Porto. 

 It's called Francesinha, which translates

to little Frenchie.  We knew this was the

famous sandwich in Porto so we asked

the best place to eat one.  We were recommended

Santiago Café, so here are our sandwiches from there.

This is like the vegetarians worst nightmare because

in one sandwich there is ham, sausage, steak, and pork.

I think it was made for the indecisive man who didn't 

know what kind of sandwich he wanted so he put

everything on.  That's just my opinion, but we were

proud to say we finished our entire Francesinhas.

 It is served on bread, covered with cheese

 complete with an egg on top and french fries.

Theory claims it was invented in the 1960s when

an emigrant French man tried to reinvent the Portuguese taste.

It is usually eaten with friends after a big football (soccer) match.

 An interesting fact about this bridge below is that it was done

by the same architect that built the eiffel tower.  This bridge

crosses the Douro river.

 Porto is the second largest city in Portugal.
