April 25th

Here is the beautiful park where I spent my April 25th holiday.

This is the National Botanical Park of Ajuda in Belem.  

Usually, it costs 2euros to enter, but they had special events

 going on for the holiday. It was the perfect park to see the bridge, 

which is also named after the important date of April 25th.  

The name was changed since beforeit was called the Salazar Bridge.  

This was the day that Salazar's dictatorship was overthrown. 

 Now, it is a national holiday and I got to enjoy a day off of school.

At the park, some kids put on a cute theater show and had a bake sale.

As you can see there are carnations on the papers.  This day is also known

as the carnation revolution as no shots were fired, but instead carnations were

put into the rifles.  The carnations were all over the market and so it seemed fit

to put them in the gun barrels as a declaration of peace.

Here is a cute children's art exhibit to celebrate the day, also known as Freedom Day.

My first time seeing a white peacock! It was beautiful.

Here I am at the assembly where the local citizens of Lisbon are represented.
The assembly president of the republic gives a speech every year in commemoration.

Here is a parade.  To me, it was less of a parade and more

an opportunity for local citizens to march around and protest their causes.
